Phew…

by on Oct.18, 2009, under General, news, Picture of the day, Recent Weddings - Engagements

It has been a while since my last update!  To say I have been busy in an understatement.  Weddings, fashion events, corporate events, product shots, marketing materials for the wedding show, laying out albums, the list goes on…

We will be at the Perfect Wedding Guide Bridal Show on November 1st at the Overland Park Convention Center.  Designed a new brochure, flyer and business card for the show.  We will also be using these materials at David’s Bridal in Lenexa after the wedding show.  Got some new metal prints to showcase a few images at both locatoins as well,  Here is the front of our new flyer and business card!

The new brochure can be seen here.  It might take a second to load, but it is there and I like it is much better than the previous version.

We have had a couple of weddings and I have been using the new Pocket Wizard Flex TT5 wireless.  I really like the set up even with the current distance limitations with the 580EXII.  The freedom to move around and position lights like I am in the studio is great!  Here is one image from a recent wedding that I really like.

Classic

I set up the flash to the camera right out on the golf course right after sunset.  I then set my flash about a stop under the skylight and this is exactly the look I was aiming for!  The image below is from another recent wedding where I was able to keep my flash unit up high and camera left, while getting low on the ground to capture the girls and the bride from the kids level.  Again, a difficult shot if you are shooting with flash tethered or on camera.

Getting down low!

Getting down low!

Still experimenting with the Expodisc.  I find sometimes it is just easier to shoot a calibration target to set my white balance, but I am still experimenting with it and like the results I have gotten when I use it.

I have shot several events recently!  Has one last night and one today, both of which I will have images posted for in a few days.  A couple weeks ago I had the honor of covering a fashion event here at Halls on the plaza for VOGUE Magazine!  That is pretty exciting!  This model was fun to work with; actually they were all fun and the staff from Halls, Adrianne Vittadini and VOGUE were fantastic…

VOGUE at Halls on the plaza!

VOGUE at Halls on the plaza!

A few other things going on.  Rated five out of five with The Perfect Wedding Guide (top 25% of KC wedding photographers) and got the same rating on Martha Stewart Weddings.  Pictage is working out real well.  Our clients love the quality and products; I love the extra time it give me!  Clients rating very positive on Pictage.   We also just added a new line of products and holiday gifts on our website that we are pretty excited about.  If you want to take a look, click here; when you get there, be sure to click on the link for Holiday Gifts!

Product shots are a great time filler.  Most of the product shots I do seem to involve food!  Gotta taste it all!

Yumm...

Yumm...

There is more, but it has been a long day and got a few long ones ahead so I am going to start by backups running and relax so I can get some shut eye!  I will try not to let so much time lapse between posting next time…

See you next time!

by on Sep.28, 2009, under events, General, news, Picture of the day

I covered an event yesterday for The Kansas City Food Artisans.  Great people, food and fun!  Here are the images taken during the event. You should be pretty hungry after looking at all this food!

I want to send a special thanks to Carol Maser, Mama Dida and Chef Mark for having me capture the event!  THANKS!  I am looking forward to some more culinary moments with your group in the future.

FREE Portraits and Face Painting! Update!

by on Sep.11, 2009, under General, news

RVR PHOTOGRAPHY

Tips for portrait day:

  • Wear comfy clothes that will not restrict movement and make you look stiff. Portraits can be fun! We might have you sit on the grass, so keep that in mind as well.
  • For families or couples; wear solid complimentary colors. Jeans and white shirts are great and classic. Light pastel colors are okay as is black. Patterns and small checkers do not look well in online or in prints!
  • Make up is fine as long as it does not shine! We do not want any hot spots on your smiling faces.
  • Pets are okay as long as you are responsible for them.
  • We will capture several images of a few poses. We like a “normal” pose or two and a fun pose or two! If you have small kids, it helps to practice with them and get them excited about coming to the park for pictures.
  • Feed the kids before they get dressed!

Just so you know…

We are a full service studio serving the greater KC metro and surrounding areas. We offer wedding and event coverage, in studio or on location portraits for families, babies, seniors and pets too! We do maternity progression and weight loss tracking images with a final composite image showing your story from start to finish! Baby’s first year packages are available as well. If you are thinking about a “special” gift for your hubby or that someone special, we do that too! Give us a call and let us know how we can help you!

We capture moments in time and stitch them together to tell the story of your life!

Thank You Fans!

    Free Portrait Session Coming Soon!

by on Aug.20, 2009, under General, Picture of the day

We love our clients and fans!

That is why we are asking for fans on Facebook and Twitter.  We are targeting 102 on Facebook and 100 on Twitter.  Once we reach either milestone, we are going to set up a free portrait session for our fans.  We are only 11 fans away on Facebook as of this post!

    RVR Family Portrait

    RVR Family Portrait

    How it works…

As soon as we hit the milestone, we will set up a time and place where you can come and meet RVR PHOTOGRAPHY.  We are thinking Antioch Park as it has some nice locations for portraits.  All you need to do is bring a self addressed stamped envelope that will hold either a 5×7 or an 8×10 image.  You will bring that with you, we will capture several images of you, your family, pet, kids or any combination you prefer.  The following day, all the images will be posted on a link at www.rvrphotography.com in our proofing area.  You view the images, pick your favorite and send us an email with your selection.  We will then print that image for you and send it to you at no cost!  That is all there is to it.

    Why are we doing this???

Because we like you!  We do want people to know we do more than weddings and in studio portraits.  We also want to test our new Pictage hosting service and thought this would be a great way to do that.  We are always looking for ways to improve and feedback from real people.   We would also like to have a few more smiling faces to post in our sample galleries next time we update the website.

    RVR - A wonderful journey!

And just as a reminder that we do more than weddings, here are some of our favorites from over the years…

    Thanks!

Keep watching for updates on Facebook and Twitter.  We will post a link with details and such on our home page very soon.  We hope to see you at the park with a big smile!

    Trees…

by on Apr.26, 2009, under General, Picture of the day

    Tree Prices

    Tree Prices

Earth day was this week and Arbor day is coming soon.  While taking our evening walk in our little neighborhood park, I noticed these price tags on a few of our trees.  It got me to wondering; Who decides what a tree is worth?  Why are some trees worth more than others?  Why are they putting price tags on our trees?  Are those signs made of recycled material?

While making my picture of the day, I noticed that the price tags have a website http://heartlandtreealliance.org/egap.php?id=229 with information about most of my questions!  I sent them an email to ask what the tags are made of.  Anyways, if you see one of these tags and wonder what it is all about, now you know!

    Thanks,

    Richard

    CCVI day!

by on Apr.23, 2009, under Picture of the day

    Music!

    Music!

I spent the morning with the children and staff at the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired.  I am working on a slide show and images that will be used for public education and fund raising for this wonderful center.  Mary Wetzel made the arrangements for me to meet with Traci Todd Murphy at the center.  The staff and children were amazing!  Steven Murray from the KC Symphony set up an educational petting zoo for the kids.  After a little bit of education, they were allowed to play with all the instruments and explore the feel and sound of music.  This is one of the many images captured throughout the day.  I really enjoyed my time with the children and I am looking forward to going back next week to catch them at play in the playground.   It was a pleasure watching them learn, explore and share themselves with each other and with the rest of us as well!

    See you tomorrow!

    Working with CCVI!

by on Apr.16, 2009, under General

On April 23rd, RVR PHOTOGRAPHY will be at the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired in KC.  I will be taking photographs of the children at a petting zoo put on by the KC Symphony.  The KC Chiefs will also be there with the kids.  Images taken during the day will then be compiled into a slideshow for fund raising efforts for this great organization.  To learn more about CCVI visit their website.

Once I have all the details and have taken captured the images, I will create a new post with links and more information!  We look forward to working with CCVI and are always happy to help our community in any way we can.

    Thanks,

    Richard
