Been busy!
by rvrphoto on Aug.03, 2011, under Uncategorized
Just a quick note to let you all know that I have been busy lately and working hard! Too busy to keep the blog and website up to date. Not a bad thing!
I have been working on moving everything over to a new server, and had a couple of hiccups during the process. The main issue I had was with my blog. Luckily, I had exported all my posts and data. I tried many different approaches to resolve the issue, and ended up just installing WordPress from scratch and the importing my stuff back in. Success!
I will start updating both the website and blog over the next few weeks as time allows. So stay tuned and come back!
Best regards,
Richard
High Dynamic Range Images from RVR PHOTOGRAPHY

Happy New Year!
It has been a long cold winter so far. We had some great portrait sessions, but I also had some time to look at some old images and try some new techniques. High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography has been around for a while and I played with it some several years ago. Over the last few months, I took some old images and played with HDR some more. I really like the look it gives images. What is HDR? Well, when you take a picture with a digital camera, you expose for the lights or the shadows. The result is that you loose details at the other end of the of the range that the digital sensor can capture. HDR allows you to capture the same images several times, each at a different exposure setting. You use the same aperture setting for all the images and vary your time to expose correctly, over expose and under expose. The software then merges the selected images into one image that shows both the highlights and the shadows. You can also adjust tonal ranges and get some surreal looking images. Of course that is never enough, I like to then edit each image to highlight certain things and make the image look more like what I had in mind when I took it. I always thing ahead of the possibilities for an image when I capture it. The interesting thing about this series of HDR images, is that I did not capture them using the HDR process! These images were actually one image that I replicated and processed at different exposure values. One of the many reasons I always shoot in RAW is that as long as the image is not over exposed, I can bring out details from the shadows.
I like the way these turned out and hope you enjoy them as well.
Thanks, have a Happy New Year and call us if you need portraits, have a wedding or a question…
